Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Skipping on Math class had its upsides. And downsides. But he’d much rather look at the upsides. To begin with, he’d had time to come up with a nice chapter of a horror book he’d wanted to write for his brother, who seemed very interested in trying to make a movie with his friends. The sudden inspiration probably meant he wasn’t as blocked as he’d thought; which was a good thing. And, if he skipped Math class, he wouldn’t take the risk of accidentally throwing something across the classroom by accident. He’d been doing that too much lately. Twice in Math class, and one in the cafeteria. The teacher was probably convinced that Aiden was trying to murder him, now. Obviously, certain teachers had evil streaks, though not all of them, as Skylar had remarked once. But honestly… to believe a student had tried to commit murder with a ruler? That was just… stupid. Luckily he hadn’t been put in detention for that. It would have been over-exaggerating. The downsides were that he might fail Math thanks to his multiple skipping classes, but he didn’t care about that much. It was just Math. The last time he’d checked, he didn’t need to know what Trigonometry was to become a writer, which was his main intention. He’d never dared to skip on English classes, on the other hand. He had joined Riverdale for the literature programs, after all. Granted, he had a lot of experience with literature—high epic fantasy especially. But it wasn’t like he could go and publish a book, let alone inform the literary world that he was a writer in the past. They’d deem him insane. And he certainly didn’t want that. Plus, he wanted to step a bit further from high epic fantasy. Not that he didn’t enjoy writing it, but he felt a need to find a new genre that he was good at. He figured, horror could be one. But he wasn’t too sure. Another downside could probably be that, now he’d finished the chapter he’d wanted to write, he was very, very bored. He was sitting at the hall, holding the black book he used to plan his stories in, blinking every now and then to refrain from falling asleep. Oh God. Skipping classes was much more boring than he’d thought. He made a mental note not to do it so often. He yawned lazily and stretched. Hoping to distract himself, he picked a random book off his backpack and stared blankly at the first page without even paying attention to what he was reading. He soon found himself shaking his head to keep himself awake. It… wasn’t working, though. After about ten minutes of randomly flipping pages and staring at them without even understanding what was written there, he ended up falling fast asleep. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 467 Tags! The only motivation that Oliver had for going to English class was the fact that without it, he wouldn't graduate. That was it. He'd been able to get away with not graduating from high school once, but things were different in the late 1800s. You didn't need a high school diploma to get most simple jobs. Even while Orville was in high school, he and his brother were working on printing jobs and printing presses. He already had a job, therefore, when he dropped out the first time. It was also his dream job to be a printer at that point in time. As time passed, the print shop turned into a bicycle shop, which then turned into an airplane company, but the fact remained that in the late 1800s and early 1900s it was a lot easier to make something of yourself without formal education and degrees. To Oliver, degrees weren't much more than pieces of paper anyway. Sure, they proved accomplishments, but you shouldn't need a piece of paper to prove you were worthy to do something. Unfortunately, his so-so grades reflected this attitude. At long last, English class let out, and Oliver left the room with a large smile on his face. Last class of the day. Now he was free to do whatever he wanted with his spare time - Which, at least currently, did not involve homework. At least, not homework assigned in his classes. He always had his own little projects, but those were far more enjoyable owing to one simple fact - It wasn't required by someone else that he do them! Oliver couldn't wait for the chance to take more electives than required classes. His grade point average would probably go up then too. The freshman was walking along a second floor corridor, making an attempt to decide what he wanted to do. It was a bit too early for dinner, though his stomach rumbled, clearly craving some sort of sustenance to tide him over until the glorious third meal of the day. Like most 21st century high schools, vending machines were a common sight at Riverdale High, and it did not take long for Oliver to pinpoint one. He inserted a tattered dollar bill into the slot of the vending machine, having to fumble around with said bill and smooth it out a few times before the vending machine would take it. Oliver walked away from the vending machine, nibbling on one of two Reese's Peanut Butter cups. One dollar for two peanut butter cups. Oh, the wonders of inflation. In Oliver's first life, that one dollar would have earned him at least four (though likely even more) packages of that very same candy. The fifteen year old stopped in midstep when he spotted a familiar face slumped against the wall, his head drooped forward over what appeared to be some sort of notebook. Oliver grinned. Falling asleep in the middle of a hallway. That was just asking for trouble. Oliver finished up his first peanut butter cup and stuffed the other in his pocket, still safe in it's wrapping. He cleared his throat quietly, then addressed Aiden in a deep and booming voice different than his typical. "Harper! What do you think you're doing in the hallway? You should be in class! Up, now!" He stated in a stern tone, clearly trying to pretend to be a teacher. One advantage that Oliver had that he didn't even realize, of course, was that Aiden had been skipping class, and that he'd fallen asleep before class let out. Well at least that worked out to his advantage. Oliver stood a few feet away, waiting to see how the subject of his prank would react. Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Really, it didn’t help much that Aiden lacked sleep. It really didn’t help, at all. He’d stayed up late the past days, trying to catch up with unfinished works, studying, and mostly, chatting with his little sister via IM. He still felt a bit homesick. Not as much as he’d felt during the first week he’d spent at Riverdale, but it was still a nasty feeling. On the other hand, he had a lot of schoolwork to catch up with. He had the habit of delaying schoolwork until the limit due date, and it was more-or-less a good thing: he put pressure on himself to make his homework seem decent, and most of the time it would warrant him a decent note. Not the greatest one, but hey, better than nothing. No? He’d always figured it wasn’t the best thing to do; but the truth was, he didn’t care much. He was pretty content with passing the year, no matter how bad his grades were. Unfortunately, this didn’t please his mother, much. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about schoolwork, but he put more effort on his literary works, which, at least in this life, were few and pretty plain to his eyes. Thus, he sometimes gave more thought to them than he did to homework. Maybe, staying awake to try and finish his works wasn’t too much of a good idea, since it only made him sleepy. The worst part was that when he slept, he rarely noticed anything. He had a very light sleep, but he didn’t notice anything. He heard the noise upstairs, which probably meant that the class was over, but didn’t move. Five minutes, he thought. He’d get up and go do something productive in five minutes. Honestly, people could be so noisy… he groaned a bit and squeezed his eyes shut… really; five minutes of sleep couldn’t hurt anyone. …Until he heard the raised voce and jumped, blinking in mild shock and surprise. ”WHOA! Okay, I’ up, I-“he looked around and looked for the teacher. But, the only person in sight was Oliver. When the heck had he gotten there…? Oh, damn. Upon the realization that he’d fallen far too easily for the little joke, he slapped his forehead. ”Bah, damn it,”he muttered. Honestly, since when was he so gullible? He should have been expecting that someone had to come and do something like that. Well… at least he hadn’t dumped a water bottle on his head, but still, he should have expected it. Yet, he didn’t. Apparently, boredom could kill brain-cells. He glared up at Oliver as best as he could, considering how sleepy he still was. ”Uh… you’re not the teacher… and if you are, I must say you’re a very short one,”he said, a little bit dryly. True, Aiden was not exactly the tallest at 5’2” but still… he was trying to play along, but his temper made it really tough. ”Anyway. Is there a particular reason that you wanted to scare me to death for? ‘Cuz I wasn’t planning on dying anytime soon,” Aiden said, still a bit dryly, but not as much. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 523 Tags! The prank yielded just the results that Oliver was hoping for. He bit his lip to hold back the chuckles that were currently seizing his body. The other freshman was glancing around, as if trying to get his bearings. Once a look of realization crossed Aiden's face, Oliver could no longer hold back. A chorus of laughter came forth, and Oliver was helpless to stop it. That...that face was golden. When the freshman noticed the glare, he was able to regain his composure to some extent, though a few loose chuckles still escaped. The short comment caused Oliver to raise an eyebrow and look a tad annoyed, but his face still looked jovial for the most part - so obviously it didn't bother him too much. "Well, you know, Riverdale High School is an equal opportunity school." He grinned a little as he continued on. "Now, I will concede the point that I look a little young to be a teacher. However, I think we both know that looks don't necessarily mean everything at Riverdale High." A shielded reference to RSOR, of course, but a true one nonetheless. Neither he nor Aiden were normal freshmen by any stretch of the imagination. They were both teenagers and not teenagers at the same time. Oliver for the most part enjoyed being young again, and took full advantage of the opportunities that it provided him with - though at the same time, he absolutely loathed the lack of respect that seemed to come toward being younger. That was really the only qualm (well, that and the shortness...and awkwardness of puberty in general) that he had with being a teenager again. As Aiden questioned his motives, Oliver shook his head, lowering his voice. "Nah. If I wanted to kill you, I'd pick something besides a heart attack. Besides, I think we're all curious as to what J.R.R. Tolkien is going to entertain us with in the 21st century. Well, those of us who know." Oliver commented lightly, though carefully, voice barely above a whisper. Fortunately the loud hum of the vending machine at the end of the hallway offered ambient noise that would hopefully garble up Oliver's words to anyone who was trying to eavesdrop. The Anti-RSOR already called him Orville - Did they really need more ammo? Oliver took a seat on the ground nearby Aiden, fetching the remaining Reese's Peanut Butter Cup from his pocket and holding it out to the other boy. "Consider this to be a peace offering." Besides being a piece offering, Oliver kind of owed Aiden, didn't he? After all, he had kind of nabbed a few M&Ms off of the other boy on one of their previous meetings. It was only fair that Aiden receive something for that in return. "Incidentally, what were you doing sleeping out here anyway? The hallway isn't exactly a premium spot for a snooze." He also eyed the notebook, tempted to ask what was inside of it. Then again, after what he and his girlfriend Lenita had read in his sister in this life's diary...well, he was hesitant to read anything from anyone's little black book. Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Well, this was just… silly. Okay... so maybe he overreacted a little. But hey, it was only logical that someone freaked out at a joke of that sort. And, after his recent skipping classes, it only made sense that he freaked out so… easily. He’d really, really thought he’d gotten into trouble, and that it was really a teacher snapping at him. Then again, it was Aiden’s fault for falling asleep in the hall. He should have guessed that made him an easy target; but the truth was it never occurred to him, until the last minute. He figured, the next time he ever wanted to become the subject of a prank, he’d fall asleep there, again. Or not. Nah… he’d better not. He wasn’t too fond of the idea. The last thing he wanted was to get into trouble. Though, lately, trouble usually found him. It wasn’t the best thing in the world. He rolled his eyes a little at Oliver’s response. ”Oh. Oh, well, if you see it that way… I guess it’s true, yeah…”he shrugged a little. That was… pretty much true, indeed. As far as he knew, half the students (or maybe less, he didn’t really know the percentages) were much, much older than they seemed. Still, he couldn’t quite discern how they had all ended up in one place, but he didn’t really ponder it, much. He stretched a bit, and yawned. ”Though, I doubt the teachers would let anyone with their head stuck in the clouds teach anything, no?” he rose an eyebrow and smirked a little bit. The puns. What a joy. Right? He rolled his eyes at the comment. ”Ya, I’ve heard that’s the million dollar question. Too bad we can’t go and ask him, no?” he held back a laugh, though at the same time he was glancing around. He just… had to say that. He’d always been fond of inside jokes and puns and… well, he had to use them whenever the opportunity showed itself, though he’d gotten into trouble a couple of times because of that. Normally, he reserved those little references for his sister, Coralyn, and more recently, for those in the RSOR. He wondered if they found it annoying. Not… like he cared much, but… still, it would be fun to know. At least, he thought so. He eyed the Peanut Butter Cup. ”Hmmm… well, considering that sugar makes everyone happy… okay, thanks,”he said, and took the candy. He remembered the M&M’s thing a while ago, so he could consider the debt paid. He opened the candy and rolled his eyes a little at the question. ”Uh… well. You see, my main intention wasn’t falling asleep here in the first place. I was supposed to be writing something…Then I decided it would be fun to figure out if one could die of boredom… and, apparently it is possible…”he said, shrugging. Of course, when tired, anyone could fall asleep anywhere, no? ”So, what’s up? Besides the sky?”he asked, smirking. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 504 Tags! Mandee & Oliver Muse! Nope Notes! xP the puns... Oliver had meant the prank to be harmless, just a bit of fun to be had for all parties involved. He was therefore happy to see that Aiden was loosening up a bit as time went on. He still seemed slightly annoyed, but that was reasonable, if not a bit annoying to Oliver himself - It was supposed to be funny after all. Oliver hadn't done any lasting harm, he'd just given Aiden a jolt. That was the way he saw it, anyway. To Oliver, the fact that Aiden threw a pun back in his face proved that Aiden could take a joke. If he couldn't, then why would he make one back? Oliver usually interpreted such an action as an invitation for future banter. If Aiden couldn't handle it, he was likely opening up a can of worms. A small smirk came across Oliver's face. "Depends on what's being taught. I imagine they'd love to have someone with their head in the clouds to teach about weather, for example...or flight. Birds eye view might come in handy in that case." Oliver didn't know much about weather, mind you, just that it...well, happened. He knew the basics, but didn't feel the need to know any more than that. Wind speeds and inclement weather could affect flight patterns. That was about the extent of it that Oliver had ever needed to use. The freshman let out a mock sigh and snapped his fingers. "That is too bad. I'm quite curious now. What do you think?" The smirk was back on Oliver's face at this. Thanks to Aiden's response, they could discuss this without even appearing suspicious to normals. Thinly veiled third person responses were all the shield needed in this case. Normals would have no idea that J.R.R. Tolkien and Orville Wright were talking in the hallway - It was just two freshmen talking about hypotheticals (that weren't actually hypotheticals, but they'd leave that part unbeknownst to any normals who may walk past). Oliver was pleased to see Aiden taking the peace offering peanut butter cup. "You're welcome. Just don't go too crazy." Oliver responded, thinking about Joan of Arc and her propensity for sugar induced giggling fits. He doubted that Aiden was prone to the same thing, but he figured he'd issue a warning, just in case. "Death by boredom. That sounds like a terrible way to go, if you ask me." The freshman shook his head, his eyes diverted toward the ground. Death was always an odd subject when it came to RSOR. He would ask Aiden what he was writing, but, well, he'd already asked that exact question, hadn't he? What J.R.R. Tolkien would work on in the 21st century would be what Aiden was writing. Why rephrase the same question? Oliver's gaze shot back to Aiden with an arched brow at the other boy's next words, followed by a grin. "Some florescent lights and a ceiling. Above that, I'd venture to say some birds and possibly an airplane or two. Oh, and air, of course." Well, with that comment, Aiden was just asking for it. The sky was a literal answer, so Oliver was going to give him a few other literal answers. It was only fair. Eventually they'd get to the true roots of the question, but why not have fun along the way? Aiden was making it more and more clear that he wasn't all that opposed to the idea himself, at least in Oliver's interpretation. Word count: 620 To: Ani with Aiden Notes: This is fun. XD

Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Jokes were fun most of the time. For as long as no one ended up getting hurt, Aiden was fine with it. He still wasn’t over the first days in his old school, when some of the older students thought it would be fun to dump water buckets on the head of the younger students. He hadn’t been too pleased when he walked into the gym and suddenly ended up completely soaked. He would have snapped at the guys doing that… if one of them hadn’t accidentally dropped the empty bucket on his head. That had been painful. Luckily the guys that had done that got suspended, but that didn’t take the continuous headache from him the next week. A “kick me” sign on his back, he would have accepted, but water and a bucket falling on him? That wasn’t his definition of fun. But, since being tricked into believing he was being scolded by an angry teacher didn’t involve any water or heavy objects thrown at his head, he was fine. ”Hmm… I hadn’t really considered that. Still, I think that I’d do much better teaching something like English or whatever.” Or, the good old Anglo-Saxon, in his case. He shook his head at himself at the little reference to his past life. He could take references, too. Except his sister’s. She tended to overdo it. That had nearly gotten him into trouble several times. Nearly, that is. So he had a very good reason to complain. ”What do I think? I dunno. Maybe he should stop torturing people in the Middle Earth, no? I think, after the Ring, they’ve had enough.” That could pretty much answer the question. True, Aiden still had a few ideas for the Middle Earth, but it wasn’t like he could publish them. Maybe he could ask Dodgson for help to come up with another fictional universe, but it wouldn’t be the same. He would probably miss the Middle Earth after a while. At least, he could discuss that without much trouble. He was good at hiding references. He started eating the candy. ”Oh. Believe me, sugar does nothing to me. I mean it.” It was half true… apart from the damage to his teeth; sugar had absolutely no effect on him. If he had wanted to, he could take a spoonful of sugar and it wouldn’t really affect him, much. For as long as he didn’t try and test that theory with Isabella… he’d only seen her in a sugar rush once, and it had been… odd. ”Now that I think about it, dying from boredom doesn’t sound like fun, but it could be worse. Death by pencil, for example… now, that would be weird. I bet the Math teacher agrees with that,”he rolled his eyes. He made a mental note not to tap a pencil into the desk in Math class, again. Especially with the class-skipping. He didn’t need more trouble. When the response to his sky comment came, he chuckled a little. Really, now? ”Well… I should have imagined that, I suppose. Wonder why I didn’t.” he half laughed at that, having expected an answer of that sort. Really, this was very amusing. Or, at least he thought so. Maybe being antisocial all the time wasn’t too much fun, after all. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 549 Tags! Mandee & Oliver Muse! Oliver was no stranger to injury, in either lifetime. There were differences between harmless pranks and mean-spirited pranks. Oliver usually set his pranks with the intent of not just making himself laugh, but hopefully making the person hit laugh as well as soon as they were over the initial shock. Where was the fun in it if the other person didn't enjoy it? The one exception to this rule was Errol, but Oliver thought that this was only fair. Most of Oliver's encounters with Errol resulted in Errol being cruel and mean-spirited to him, so why should Oliver not return the favor? That said, sometimes Oliver failed to realize just how his pranks effected people at times. Sometimes he would go too far, and he would have to be informed to lay off. He wasn't perfect, and sometimes...well, sometimes he got a little carried away. Case in point, the incident with Cindy several years before, when he placed bugs on her bed. This incident was not spoken of for years, although Cindy succeeded in opening up the can of worms again when she admitted who she was in the wax museum. Oliver had not meant to go so far as to make his sister cry. Now, though, Oliver had utilized the bug prank a couple more times, though usually with plastic or metal bugs as opposed to real ones. Cindy Winchester wasn't a completely innocent party either. She was the one who'd left a diary filled with fake entries intended to freak Oliver out. Oliver fell for it, though everything was eventually smoothed over. Unfortunately Alison also read the entry, along with Oliver's girlfriend Lenita, providing the need for more explanations, but everything was fine now. Oliver's mind was still a little scarred from the mental pictures, but otherwise fine. "I think if I had to teach...hmm, well, I'd probably teach physics or something. I don't exactly fit the qualifications for other subjects that I might consider teaching...on paper, at least." Oliver whispered the last four words of that sentence, a sly grin on his face. He'd taught others how to fly airplanes before, but being that he did not have a pilot's license as Oliver Winchester, he couldn't very well teach such a thing again. At least not at this point in time. In fact, he was fully aware that while he was an expert on "vintage" aircraft (more than an expert, really), he'd probably need a few crash courses on the airplanes of the 21st century. Oliver let out a snort. "They probably have. Could possibly write about the next generation or something, but who knows? Even on the off chance that J.R.R. Tolkien was still around, he couldn't really publish the same stuff in the same writing style. I wouldn't think he should stop writing, though. That's his expertise. He might as well put it to use again, even if he has to write under a pseudonym." Pseudonym...or new name entirely. Oliver planned to stay with an area that he was familiar with as well. Though, likely, he would head in a different direction with it. Maybe he'd study cars and add improvements to them. Maybe he would study space travel. Either way, he wanted to be involved in the building process. He wasn't truly happy unless he was tinkering with something. An office job would be deadly boring to him. Oliver chuckled. "I have a feeling your dentist would probably disagree with that. I don't, though...I told my dentist before that I swear I had more cavities not eating sugar than when I did eat a lot of sugar." This was his dentist from before, but he decided not to mention that little tidbit. Aiden might be able to gather as much, or he might not, but the anecdote seemed to fit in this case. "Death by pencil? That's an odd one. I dare you to incorporate that into a story." He sighed and leaned his back against the wall as he sat, an amused smile on his face. This wasn't so bad. He enjoyed talking to people one on one, or even in small groups. It was when the groups got larger that Oliver clammed up. This? This was completely fine. Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-The one and only reason that Aiden have to keep his work to himself was superstition. As a little kid, he’d once asked his father to read one of his works, and he’d declined, stating that when an unfinished work was read by someone other than the author, then it would bring bad luck. It took Aiden a few years to understand that his father had said that because he hadn’t been in the mood to read anything, and thus had given his son an excuse. But still, somehow he still clung to that belief to that day, and evaded answering directly or giving bad excuses (he had once yelled something like “Hey, look, a flying shark!” at a classmate to avoid answering the question), and shoved anyone asking away. Also, as much as he tried, he couldn’t help but being self-conscious. Sometimes he believed that he couldn’t equal his previous works, and thus pressed himself, to the point where the result didn’t please him, and then he had to start over again. So much self-consciousness for a fourteen year-old. ”…’Cuz, it’s much easier to be off the ground?” he asked in a low tone, and then choked back his laugh. Okay, he’d shut up now. Enough in-jokes for now, Aiden. Seriously. But still, it was very, very entertaining. He usually didn’t pick on people, but he was doing it a lot lately, especially to other RSOR members. He pretended to roll his eyes at the comment. ”Pfft, of course he’d do that. It’s not like he’d have any other option, no? ‘Cuz if he suddenly showed up and published something, everyone would find it really, really weird,”he answered. It was only logical that he worried about that. He’d been turning the idea in his mind for a while now. As a child, he’d wondered about it more than he did now, especially after he figured out everything. The main question that had roamed his head during those times had been what the hell am I going to do now?! and even now, he hadn’t managed to find the answer. Sometimes, having a second life had its disadvantages. He more or less rolled his eyes at the dentist comment. ”Oh, well, my dentist isn’t happy with me, but I was talking about hyperactivity fits,”he said, shaking his head like it was childishly obvious, and tapping a pencil into his knee. True, his dentist was pretty mad at him for once nearly breaking a tooth while trying to bite into a caramel apple, but that could be repaired easily. A sugar rush he didn’t fear… unless it was coming from someone else. That was just a plain scary experience. Aiden couldn’t help but smirk at the comment. ”Well, as much as I think a death by pencil belongs more in a Final Destination movie rather than a story, I take that dare,”he answered. Aiden wasn’t too familiar with horror movies, but he was taking a more horror/supernatural literary genre. Why not give it a shot? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 504 Tags! Mandee & Oliver Muse! Ze Silence. XP Notes! Another in-joke. Oliver took it in stride, a small grin appearing on his features. They weren't so boyish as they'd been at the beginning of the year, although he was still distinctly in one of the younger grades at Riverdale. Oliver didn't have much of a problem with in jokes really, although sometimes Isa could go a little too far with the incessant Wright puns. At the end of the day, though, it was funny, and Oliver realized that. He even caught himself making a few. "I wouldn't say easier, but..." He shrugged, grin still on his face. It probably would be easier for him to teach that over anything else. With the exception of perhaps a class on building objects. That one he could do pretty well with as well, as long as he didn't get himself too involved with his students' activities. When other people were working on other mechanical projects, he had a habit of interfering. It wasn't a conscious thing, and he certainly wasn't doing it to get on anyone's nerves, but he couldn't help himself. He'd find himself starting to point out ideas, or, in one case with his nephew in his past life, snatching the object out of his hands. "Well, just let me know if you see him around, alright?" Oliver smirked and winked. His tone was jovial, so on the off chance that anyone was lurking and eavesdropping (such as Tamara or Errol...or whoever the freakin' Wizard was, if not the aforementioned duo), it would easily sound as though he were joking. One would have to look at the freshman's facial expressions to see any hint that there was more to it than that, and Oliver's face was focused on his fellow freshman. Oliver gave a snort. "I know you were. Just pointing out that there are some people who would disagree with that statement." In this life, Oliver hadn't had to deal with too many cavities or teeth problems. Then again, he was also fifteen years old in this life. He'd had a few cavities, but what person didn't? Death by pencil. Oliver had a feeling that he and Aiden could spend hours coming up with various 'odd deaths'. Oliver was imaginative (albeit with machines rather than writing), and Aiden was imaginative. These two could definitely think of something. When Aiden accepted the dare, Oliver smiled. "Good. I won't set a due date because...well, to be honest, I hate due dates. That's probably another reason I wouldn't be a good classroom teacher." Oliver shook his head. There were a lot of things about school that he disagreed with, but there wasn't too much that he could do about them. He just had to grin and bear it. He only had to put up with high school for what, three more years? Then came college, which would hopefully allow him a bit more freedom. Word count: 506 To: Ani with Aiden Notes: Yay XD

Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Maybe he should go off and do something productive, but he didn’t really feel like it. The truth was, he wasn’t really willing to do much at the moment. Maybe it was a joint effect of the boredom. He didn’t really think so, but he couldn’t come up with any logical answers. Huh. Logical… he’d abandoned all logics a while ago, specifically once he’d figured everything out. He couldn’t find anything strange anymore. Let’s see, he’d died, then born again, had a little sister as a fan on his work, and gotten into really random superstitions. Yeah… and he’d thought his life was weird… ”…. But if you have experience with something, better stick to it,”he added with a shrug. That was true. It didn’t necessarily apply only to reincarnates, but to the normals as well, right? Aiden had wanted to be a writer since he was little because his father was an editor, and he’d always been fascinated by his profession. His older brother was drawn to performing arts, and was thus studying to become a filmmaker thanks to their mother, who happened to be an artist. Really, if someone was familiar with a certain subject, then they should probably do something with it. It was the very best choice. He rolled his eyes. ”Oh sure. ‘Cuz ya know, that guy and I are really, very good friends.”That was sarcastic. Really, he just had to say that for one last in-joke, he couldn’t help it. He’d wanted to make that comment for a while now. He looked about cautiosly, making sure that no one was overhearing. Aiden didn’t want to take the risk, especially since he’d heard about the Wizard person… He’d never run into anyone overhearing, but a little precaution… couldn’t really hurt too much. Or at least, he figured so. Logics could have been useful there. He smirked. ”Well, and how am I supposed to know that you knew? I ain’t no mind reader.”he joked, though only in a slightly irritable manner. And then he dropped his voice ”Though mind reading might be very useful in finding a certain individual out there,”he said. Had he been bigger and taller, he would have beaten up the Wizard if he ever figured out who it was. Really. This people were so desperate for gossiping that they looked about everywhere, no matter who it was. He found that to be very, very annoying. ”Good. Due dates just put unnecessary pressure on people. He’d never been fond of school homework for that reason, but he figured, nothing much could be done of it. It was what the teachers said, and their word was final. He found that a bit unfair, to be honest. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-You know it's trueAll the things come back to youWords! 452 Tags! Mandee & Oliver Muse! Nope Notes! "I agree. Though for some it's easier than others." Oliver had to admit. It would be easy enough for Aiden to follow his dreams of becoming a writer again. He might not be able to gain the same following he had before, or even write in the same style, but he could still write. Likewise with Oliver and his machinery. Transportation, of course, was his specialty, and even in the field of flight there were far more options now than there were 'back in the day'. He could be a pilot, he could get his hands dirty making things, he could be a researcher...or he could even concentrate on the next frontier, outer space. He had to admit that it was tempting. Unfortunately Oliver couldn't really use his parents as an excuse for his field of choice. His father was an office manager and his mother a nurse. Neither of which had much of anything to do with flight or mechanics (or the combination of the two). "Really? I should give him my phone number so that he could call some time. Could impress a bunch of my friends with that." Despite his own status, despite the fact that most of his closest friends were in the history books as well, there was still something exciting about having the privilege of talking to so many historical figures. He placed it as a joke within the conversation, but there was a part of him that meant every word of it. He'd even used a recording taken from Walt Disney himself at a wax museum in London in 2010 for a speech that he did, though only he and a few assorted RSOR members realized that the voice recording was actually done recently, and for him especially, and not simply retrieved from the internet. That in itself entertained Oliver as well. Ah, inside jokes were quite amusing. "Well, I'd hope you aren't a mind reader. There's some pretty private stuff up here." Oliver pointed to his head with his forefinger and shrugged. Honestly, there wasn't anything too terrible circulating in his head. A few mental blueprints (Oliver had a near photographic memory when it came to machinery, which came in handy now that Oliver found the need to be extra careful with his ideas), um, Lenita... Okay, so maybe he didn't want anyone to read his mind after all. Oliver made a face at the mention of the other individual. He knew exactly who Aiden was talking about, and, to make matters worse, had been targeted personally by the person. Oliver couldn't help but think that it was someone in Anti-RSOR even at this point. Though Tamara almost seemed like she was out - Why would she include Lenita in an article she wrote? Oliver couldn't stand Tamara and her ways, but one of Tamara's few redeeming qualities was that she did truly seem to care about her sister. Other than that? Yeah, he couldn't stand her. "I still think it's someone feeling bitter, who has a grudge..." Unbeknownst to Oliver, he was correct in his assumptions, at least where motive was concerned. He was way off as far as the actual culprit. Win some, lose some. "Glad to see someone agrees with me there. Now all we need to do is convince every teacher in this school of that and we'll be set for the next three years." Oliver snorted. He knew it would never happen, but it was a nice thing to daydream about, wasn't it? Word count: 613 To: Ani with Aiden Notes: Yup

Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-”...Huh. Come to think about it, I never considered that. Guess it’s true, though.” Very, very true, now that he bothered to consider it. The truth was, Aiden had always considered himself lucky in that aspect of this life, he could blame his literary skills on his father and continue his work with no major trouble; but that was it. He’d never really considered what it would be like if his family was entirely different… now, that he’d have to ponder one day.
He rolled his eyes at the comment. ”Bet that would be impressive, no? I dunno. Maybe he’s a cranky old man right now; I wouldn’t be too pleased to be snapped at by a cranky old man on the phone,”because he would do that. If his phone number ended falling into a stranger’s hands, he’d probably snap. But, he’d just add the comment for good fun, there. It was already a habit, really. Hard to kick off, but quite amusing, that he could assure. Unless, of course, it got too far… the inside jokes would be the death of him, he swore. He tended to overdo it sometimes.
”Mind reading has always seemed quite a boring power to me, actually… in the end, you’d just end up hearing so much, it would drive you mad,”and all good fiction stories showed that. ”That, and reading the minds of friends and family doesn’t sound too appealing.” Not to him, at least. It was probably just being paranoid, but he’d always been afraid of finding out what others thought of him. He would never dare to read his parents’ minds, for example; and find out he wasn’t reaching his expectations. Maybe it was just being naturally paranoid. Maybe he was just self conscious. He’d never know, and he didn’t really want to find out…
… well, not anytime soon, anyway.
”Probably,”he agreed with a light nod. ”Maybe it’s just a hater. Whoever it is, they’re gonna fall in the middle of the Yellow Brick Road and find the Good Witch of the North’s sword and a bunch of other people falling on him.”Yes, he was sure whoever it was wouldn’t last. Aiden didn’t really care much if the Wizard person-thing ended up saying something about him. But he was getting to know people in RSOR, and he was starting to consider them friends. He didn’t like it when people messed with his friends. Especially if they weren’t hurting anyone! But, RSOR drew attention, so he guessed—it wasn’t that odd that someone out there was spreading rumors about it, and anyone inside. It was bound to happen, he guessed.
”That would be just great,”he said with a chuckle. ”Now we just need a way to let them see that. Or just do the frickin’ work and be done with it… though I’d much rather prefer not doing it, but it’s not like that would help at all,”Aiden let out a mock, disappointed sigh. Then he gave Oliver a conspirational look. “Or we could find a way to freeze the teachers and free them in 2015… just an idea here…”he chuckled at that.

"It is." He found it much harder to disguise his own interests and the like. He wondered if it was perhaps too late to give Errol and Tamara the excuse that his father worked with planes or something of the like. It wasn't like Ed and Judy Winchester showed up at Riverdale High much. As long as Oliver talked to Cindy about it beforehand...well, she could benefit from the explanation when it came to normals as well. Oliver let out a snort at Aiden's next comment and shrugged. "I guess I can't say I entirely blame him. It's nice having fans, but I can respect a guy wanting to have some privacy." Hence Oliver's own tendency, as Orville, to shy away from the limelight as he grew older. He never much enjoyed it period, but at least when he was younger he had his brother and sister to help him with public appearances. At the very least, Katharine was usually there. Later in life, he would usually show up just to be polite to the person who invited him, but wouldn't say or do much at any public events. He was even invited by the president of the United States in the early 1940s, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to ride in a car with him around Dayton. Orville agreed, but also requested to be dropped off back at his home as the car passed by Hawthorn Hill. Again, too much attention bothered him, almost to the point where he felt intimidated. Oliver arched an eyebrow. "I don't know if I see that so much as boring. Frustrating sounds more like it. I don't think I'd want to hear people's thoughts. Especially if they're thinking about things I don't want to know about." Oliver gave a tiny shudder at the thought of reading his past brother or current sister's mind if they happened to be thinking about each other. It would be wrong to overhear with anyone, but with those two it seemed doubly wrong for him to overhear. "He...or she...has to have some sort of modus operandi. They might have a grudge, just want to stir up drama, undermine the RSOR...or all of the above. I just know that I don't like it." Of course he didn't like it. He was the first hit by the guy. It left him wondering what the hell he did to be targeted up front like that, and, to be honest, was part of the reason why Errol was suspect number one. The Wizard of Oz jokes were not lost on him, though Oliver failed to realize just how close he and Aiden were to the biggest hint that The Wizard had dropped to his identity. He remained unaware as well. "Well, here's to hoping that once you've been hit you don't get hit again. Really, I think the guy could have come up with something better about me." He said this in a somewhat hushed tone - he was trying to put on an act of bravado, but honestly, if The Wizard happened to be lurking around he didn't want himself to be overheard. Oliver let out a sigh and shook his head when the subject returned to schoolwork. "I think it would be nice if we were given the option to test out...if we already know certain things, why do we need to learn them again?" Oliver knew the answer - So as not to arouse too much suspicion. Still, Oliver wasn't a big fan of being told what to do in his studies anyway, so having to go through high school a second time wasn't really something he particularly enjoyed. He wouldn't give up his experience at Riverdale High for the world though, honestly. He loved RSOR. He didn't have to disguise himself, and he could go by Orville Wright freely. Why wouldn't he like that? A snort. "We have a lot to get done before 2015, honestly. Freeze teachers, invent the hoverboard...I'm working on the last one currently." Oliver nodded, appearing to be completely serious, although the corners of his mouth were twitched up a little. In all honesty, he was still doing a few experiments and tossing about the idea of making a hoverboard at Hayden's request. He didn't think he was going to go through with making the whole thing, though. A flying skateboard for Hayden Callahan? Come on. Especially not now that he was a father...he needed to be there for his children, not falling off of skateboards twenty feet in the air. If he could do that on the ground, he could certainly do it way up high... Word count: 812 To: Ani with Aiden Notes: Well hey, considering I'm tired right now that ended up pretty long. Wewt!

Lived and learnedfrom fools and from sages -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-”Well there is also the possibility of making excuses, though…”Aiden shrugged a little. The possible excuses were infinite, that was true, but the point was making them sound believable. ‘I learned this at school’ probably wouldn’t work on certain cases. But there were other options. It was just a matter of being imaginative and coherent enough. ”Yup. Fame and fortune are tiring… well, fame is.” That was right. Aiden hated getting too much attention, but couldn’t complain about money. Having some cash would be nice, especially because he tended to go broke easily. The last thing he remembered buying for himself – apart from some fast food – had been his school supplies, and even for that he had used his brother’s money. One of the bad things about having a second life was that he wouldn’t get any money until he started publishing again, and he didn’t know when that would happen. It could take years. He nodded a bit at the statement. ”Yeah, I think that would be the worst part of mind reading… it would be kind of… awkward,” he rolled his eyes at the thought. Really, Aiden knew his family so well that reading their minds would probably be as useful as actually talking to them. ”Though on the other hand it would come in handy in certain situations.” Like school. Or knowing who was lying and who was telling the truth… he could think of endless possibilities.
”I’d go for the ‘all of the above’ theory, but there could be something else as well… I’d even considered it would be someone from inside at some point, but that’s too cliché – whoever it is wouldn’t be too obvious.” He was almost sure that he could discard that thought, but … really one could only guess, or at least come up with theories.
… Oh God. Did he feel like “L”…
”Yeah, I guess so… just pray he… or she, or whoever, doesn’t come up with something better. In this case, better would mean worse.” One could only hope not to be a next target; or that whatever rumors were spread weren’t too bad. But the Wizard had said some nasty things. Hope was pretty much not an option… unless you didn’t draw too much attention. Aiden considered himself rather lucky; he wasn’t a well known member of RSOR and apart from the fact that most of his hobbies revolved around literature or writing, there wasn’t anything truly remarkable about him.
”That would draw too much attention, though. In a way, having to ‘re-learn’ everything again is a positive thing… as boring as it is, I guess.” Boring, but a good cover. As if a secret society that only certain people had access to wasn’t suspicious enough; having a bunch of students skipping on subjects and schoolwork would make it even worse. That didn’t sound too appealing.
”Really now? That I’d like to see,”he chuckled. A hoverboard would be interesting. He was almost completely sure that his brother would show interest in that one. ”The time machine would be awesome too. The future wouldn’t be the same without time travel… not like we need time travel, though,”he rolled his eyes at himself. ”It would mean too much trouble… and honestly, I’ve had too much trouble for a lifetime… literally.” Lame joke, but true enough.
