It was hard for Oliver to place where he and Fred were in their relationship, if it could be called that yet. It wasn't easy to woo Fred, that much was certain. Oliver had to admit that in some ways, though, he almost preferred it that way. Looking back, he thought that one of his biggest mistakes with Lenita was moving too fast. They began dating immediately after their first kiss and date at the hang gliding field, and while Oliver wouldn't take it back for anything, he wasn't against taking a different route with Fred. And at the same time, he didn't want to ruin their friendship. A good part of the reason why Oliver was attracted to Fred in the first place was that they had a past together, both in this life and their past life, and Oliver still wanted to have that friendship and rapport with Fred even when they did become official. Technically, this was their third date. They'd traveled a couple of hours away to Kitty Hawk for their first date, and then very recently, over spring break, traveled up to Virginia to the National Air and Space Museum. Their third date (and first "official" date) would be a lot closer to home...and would cost them little to no money. This was probably for the best though, as Oliver did want to save up money for their trip to work on a plane at Fred's over the summer. He could probably ask his parents for help, and they'd likely be willing to oblige, but Oliver wanted to pay with his own money. It was his trip, and therefore he considered it to be his responsibility. Cindy had recently acquired a job as well at a bookstore in town, meaning that the Winchesters would overall have more money to treat themselves. Oliver hoped that Judy and Ed would do so. It was Fred's suggestion to go to the park, and Oliver was happy to oblige. Regardless of one's age, going to the park usually meant for a good time - especially given the adventurous nature of the two reincarnates involved. Oliver was a little more wary when it started to rain. He liked to have fun, but he wasn't a fan of dirt or mud. He decided to head over to the swings, and began swinging higher and longer, still enjoying himself quite a bit. Swinging in some ways mimicked the feeling of flying, after all, and that was a feeling that both Oliver and Fred knew and loved. As he continued to swing, thoughts about other things that he and Fred could do together circulated through his head. They didn't even technically have to be dates! (Though Oliver would prefer it that way.) How many other guys in Riverdale could say that they took flying lessons with their girlfriend? Not that Oliver nor Fred needed flying lessons - more a crash course on how to fly a modern airplane than anything else, as they had considerable experience with older aircraft. Still, it was a fun activity that Oliver figured both of them would enjoy. He considered bringing it up at some point in this outing. After several minutes, Oliver decided to dismount the swing. "Runways are clear...preparing for take-off!" Oliver shouted out with a grin, looking over at Fred. Then he jumped off of the swing, taking care to avoid landing in a small puddle and instead landing right beside it. He took care to make sure that no one was around (there wasn't, given that it was raining), then looked back at Fred. "What next, Earhart?" He inquired, still grinning. They could either stick around the park or head somewhere else, but he wanted her input on this matter. Word count: 642 To: Fred/Jez-E Notes: Looks like I got it first. XD

oh, can’t you see what i mean? ah! i might as well jump! jump! WINIFRED YOUNG ==================================== Fred was intentionally confusing Oliver as to where their relationship was at. She wasn’t so sure herself what she wanted from this so she couldn’t very much promise anything. She was still concerned she would ruin their friendship if she didn’t tread carefully and things went south. Fred wasn’t your usual date anyways, and preferred to take the lead in most things. She would either do it herself or let you know when she was ready for the next step. Hence, she hadn’t said or confirmed in any way that they were dating, but technically this was a date.
Fred wasn’t easily impressed and certainly wasn’t interested in anyone whose entire goal was to please her. She needed an independent spirit because she herself was independent. She enjoyed her freedom and needed someone that could both function with and without her. It was best if she could drag that person into fun and adventurous shenanigans of course. Oliver was stiff in ways; he was fussy about his clothes, he was organized and he was very meticulous about select things, but he was also easy enough to sway into things. Fred herself was organized, that wasn’t a bad thing unless the schedule was so important that one felt it must be followed with no deviations. THAT would be a problem, especially for someone who wanted to be with Fred. She had moments of impulse where she dropped her schedule and had a little fun. It was just part of who she was and who she was raised to be...in both lives.
One thing she could guarantee was she needed someone from RSOR. Fred was ambitious and she needed someone who was equally if not more ambitious. Most in RSOR didn’t get there by being lazy. Oliver fit that bill as well, seeing as you don’t invent the airplane by sitting around on your ass. He had a dream and he stuck to it and that held more respect in Fred’s eyes than any other form of ambition. Especially considering his dream had paved the way for her dreams.
Fred naturally enjoyed frivolous activity as much as meaningful activity. Their first two ‘dates’ had been meaningful so it was time for a little frivolous and playful fun with no obligations to do anything in particular. That was the best kind of date. One where you could do what you felt like as it happened. Fred was adventurous and would try anything, so naturally your imagination was the limit with what the two of them could do for their next date, and the next (assuming things didn’t go south before then).
Fred also flew off her swing, and with a whoop, landing in a big puddle and sending water and mud flying. To make it worse she slid in her shoes and landed on her butt in the puddle. Instead of getting upset or making a fuss, Fred found the move was fun and started laughing instead. ”So much for clear runways!!”
She shot back through her laughter. Fred stood up, her backside, legs and a large portion of her shirt dripping and muddy. ”How about...this!!” She said jumping and getting some air before landing back in the puddle on her feet, sending a wave of muddy water splashing outward, and doing its fair share to attack Orville while it was at it. ”Now that you are also all muddy, what is there to fear? Jump in! Make a splash!!” she said, jumping in yet another puddle and not caring that her clothes were actually semi-expensive ones that probably wouldn’t wash out too kindly later.
