they crawled out of the woodwork,

[/color]Emri sat on the stairs in the main hall, her eyes wandering about as she kept them peeled for spirits. She had a theory she wanted to test and figured this was the best way to go about doing it. So she sat, quietly, as the halls grey dark. It was going on 7 when she lit the candle and it was now rounding 8 and the hallways had remained clear. The late hour was likely a contributing factor to that.
Emri was known throughout the school as being strange and not quite all there. Though she considered herself in perfectly fine health, few seemed to understand her paranoia. Her past life had led her into believing spirits had killed her husband and were after her, and because of the manner in which she died, Emri maintained the thought that they got her once before. Naturally, because of her own mental instability, she often confused the past with the present. But most people at Riverdale just thought she was crazy so few put much thought into it.
Emri was wearing a double layer of sweaters today to ward of the chill. Spring was coming but it was still a bit chilly. Her orange over-sweater was dangling loosely as she watched the fire of the candle cupped in her hands flicker. She wanted to know if that particular candle would ward off spirits or attract them. She knew spirits hated salt, so she had gotten herself a salt candle. She thought perhaps they were better for warding them off while she slept each night. Rather than let the spirits catch her unawares one night as she tested it she decided to do it tonight instead.
Emri remained still until she could have sworn she heard something distantly making noise. She automatically assumed it must be a spirit and shifted along the stairs to be against the wall but still sitting trying to keep her back covered as she let her eyes roam around, searching for spirits. Her mind began racing and her heart rate increased as she was more and more nervous, hearing the sound getting closer. It was not likely she would see anything unnatural, but try telling Emri that. She reached into her pocket to grab a small salt shaker and ready to fling waves of salt at the spirits in case the candle proved ineffective. Her left hand tightened on the candle, and her right on the salt shaker and she drew back her right, ready to fling it. The spirit wasn’t far from her now, the sound of it’s footsteps was loud in the silent hallway.
