EWAN GLEN MACDONALD
"It cannot be seen
But there's blood on the green
Only God knows I'm innocent
Take me, take me home
A dark seed reigns in me
Like a storm rules over the sea
I challenge thee, do not cross
The bridge alone..."

Height: six foot one inch
Weight: 158 pounds
Eye Color: blue
Hair Color: brown-black
Build: slender, slightly muscular
Scars: small scars on his hands from accidentally cutting himself while sharpening his sword; a long scar going up his right side from a sword fight gone badly when he was fifteen
Piercings/Tattoos: He has three tattoos: 1. The Clan Donald crest over his heart; 2. A cross with Celtic knotwork on his right shoulder, going from the top of his arm down to his elbow; 3. a full back tattoo of Celtic knotwork. He has no piercings.
Personal Style: It's hard to define a 'style' for Ewan. He's not one to be picky about clothing. If it fits, and he looks good in it, he'll wear it. Of course, that means he spends a lot of his time in jeans and t-shirts. Formal clothing is something he hates, and when he's forced into it, he has to rebel in his own way. And so, he has a good supply of kilts, both traditional tartan, and 'utilikilts', built for everyday wear. He wears these just as often as pants, claiming it to be his right as a Scotsman. When he wears a utilikilt, he dresses it down with a t-shirt and heavy boots. With a formal kilt, he dresses it up with a dress shirt and shoes, along with the traditional accessories that go with a kilt. (Of course, he doesn't always wear his kilts as a true Scotsman would. If he's working, he's a bit more modest than he would be normally.)
Appearance: Ewan isn't the strongest man, but he is far from the weakest. This is clear in not only the light muscles he has, but also in his posture. It is a soldier's posture, something he retained from his past life. Every day, he works out, lifting weights and running a mile with his dogs. It's a habit, to keep himself in shape so that he could defend himself if he ever needed to. On top of that, he has an old claymore, built to look just like the one he had in his first life, and practices with it every day, with dummies set up in his back yard. Remaining strong is very important to him, and something he refuses to give up.
As for other features, he's fairly simple. He's got dark hair, black or brown depending on the lighting and season. His eyes are blue, with just a hint of green at times, mostly when in certain lighting or spaces. Shaving is a bit of a hassle, in his opinion, so he doesn't always do it. Often, there is at least stubble on his chin, usually accompanied by a wicked smirk. His eyebrows are thick, a little bushy, but they're strong and masculine, and fit his face nicely. Mostly angles, he's thin and a little bony, what little weight he has generally being muscle.
HOPE AND HORROR
MIXED IN BLOOD
Likes: coffee, drinking, parties, music, swords, books, the Bible, kilts, boots, dancing, his family, his dogs, Scotland, and sex.
Dislikes: drugs, childish adults, teenage drama, illiteracy, organized religion, women who don't back off, being bored, having no defenses, being reminded of his past, being called a hero for what he did in his past life.
Dreams: Being forgiven for what he did in his past life, especially his slaughter of innocents.
Fears: Being drugged again; anything happening to his daughter; people judging him for his past life, and taking his daughter away because of it.
Habits/Hobbies: Running his hands through his hair when he's stressed; Biting his nails when thinking; Sharpening his sword when angry; Watching every thing he drinks to make sure no one slips anything in it.
Secret(s): His daughter, Maura, was the result of him being drugged at a party. Her mother left her with him to raise, and so he did, despite the difficulties it caused for him. He also tries to hide who he was in his past life, though he knows of the RSOR, and used to be in it.
Personality: Choosing one word to describe Ewan MacDonald would be impossible. He's a father, a librarian, and if you ask his sisters, a stubborn ass. All of those work to describe him, but they work in tandem, not on their own. Simply calling him a father, and citing how brilliantly he cares for his daughter, Maura, would fail to reach the heart of the man. A librarian isn't just his occupation, it's a lifestyle. And saying he's stubborn is quite an understatement.
For Ewan, life is about many things. Especially since this is his second. It's about doing good for the world, and making up for past mistakes. It's about proving that he's more than just 'The Devastator', and he's not a blood thirsty villain. His life is about caring for his daughter, and making more people literate. After all, if people are educated, they're less likely to slaughter innocents in the name of religion, aren't they?
He is a man of few words. He prefers the written to the spoken, and will often write someone a letter or an email, rather than have a face to face or phone conversation. Ewan claims that it's easier for him to express his thoughts when there is the option of writing it, though his family all knows that it's because it's easier for him to control his temper that way.
As ever, his temper is volatile, and he is a vengeful man. That is balanced by the meditative, paternal side of him. Much has changed from the Highland warrior to the mild-mannered high school librarian. While at times he longs for the simpler days, when running his sword through anyone who disagreed with him was not just accepted, but it made him a hero, he mostly wishes to forget. If he could only forget what he'd done, he feels he could have a much more normal life.
Vengeance, he's come to realize, isn't the answer. Unless someone has truly wronged him, or hurt his daughter, he'll let it go. He realizes times have changed. But with the realizations that his actions were wrong, the realization that the causes for them were wrong too came. More than any individual, Ewan blames religion for what he did. After all, he'd used it as an excuse to slaughter people. And, it had been used by others as an excuse for wars, violence, pain. In his mind, organized religion has only hurt humanity.
Still, he believes in Christ. He reads the Bible, prays, and thanks God every day that he lives as a mostly normal man. In the back of his mind, though, there is always the worry that he will be discovered, and he will lose everything. All he can do is pray that day is in a far off future.

History: Life for Ewan Glen MacDonald started with a bang. Literally. He was born during a historical reenactment his father was leading, as his mother sat on the sidelines, having planned to watch. As cannons boomed and muskets fired blank rounds, Maura MacDonald went into labor a week before she was due, much to her and everyone else's surprise. Luckily, a trained midwife was there, and she helped her through the labor, and everyone cheered as a healthy baby boy was born. The rest of the reenactment was cancelled, and the new family headed to a hospital, to ensure nothing had gone wrong. After being given a clean bill of health, they went home, with at least an interesting story to tell of his birth.
Ewan was the first of the MacDonald children, and named after his grandfather and father. Two and a half years after his birth, Angus, his first brother, was born. The pair was close, and it was clear that they were trouble makers. By Ewan's fifth birthday, they already had a reputation for pranks and mischief. When he was seven, Flora, his first sister, was born. And suddenly, things began to change.
For as long as he could remember, Ewan had had memories that weren't his. They couldn't possibly be his, as they were of him as a grown man. Yet, they didn't seem like dreams. The folk hero, Alasdair Mac Colla, was a familiar name to him. With a father who was a historian, stories of historical heroes were abundant. And, considering that Mac Colla had been part of the MacDonald clan, the stories of him were told even more. Glen liked to jokingly tell his sons that it was family history, that the MacDonald's were a proud bunch, and that even if they hadn't descended from Mac Colla, it was still their roots.
Despite the fact that he'd always been told Mac Colla was a hero, Ewan wasn't so sure himself. In his mind, he saw visions of him killing men, without mercy; even burning down a barn full of innocent women and children. The nightmares plagued him, and rarely there was a night without them. It puzzled his parents, that their six year old son had such violent dreams. The tales of past heroes stopped, and for a while, so did the nightmares. But with the birth of Flora, they returned.
Glen and Maura couldn't figure out why he had such a hard time with life as a normal child. While other children would play simple war games, with no hint of strategy, from a very young age, Ewan was making up complex battle strategies and implementing them in games. No other child could beat him, and his parents attributed it at first to the stories Glen had told him. However, when seven year old Ewan woke up from a nightmare, and spoke Gaelic fluently, fear in his eyes still. They knew that there was something odd about their oldest son. And as the rest of their children were born and grew up, it was more and more obvious that it was something big.
When Ewan was nine, his brother Malcolm was born, and soon after, Bowie followed. The family had grown even more, and now there were four little siblings following Ewan around. By the time he was eleven, it was rare to see him without at least one of them right behind. Flora admired him especially, as he defended her from bullies and frightened away the monsters under her bed. She viewed him as a hero, and always told everyone how amazing he was. It wasn't odd to hear the boys praise him as well, but Flora did it constantly. Rather than prattling on about some fairy tale hero, she had her big brother, and clung to that heroic image she'd built up in her mind.
Another year passed, and he was twelve years old. Bowie was two, Malcolm, three, and Flora was five. Soon, Greer was born, and he had another little sister to dote on. Watching over his little siblings was a duty he took on proudly, as he did everything he could to help. From simply reading stories to them, to fighting bullies who threatened Angus and Flora. The nightmares stopped, and he seemed to be adjusting well.
In an attempt to bring the family closer together, though it seemed impossible, Glen began bringing them back into his work. Tales of historical figures were the norm again, and reenactments were attended together. Ewan asked to learn how to sword fight, and he was taught. Quickly, he was very good at it, good enough that his teacher accused Glen and Maura of having taught him already. They had done no such thing, though, and were just as surprised as the teacher. None the less, Ewan adjusted to sword fighting as if he'd already known. It was like riding a bicycle. When he was thirteen, he discovered the word 'reincarnation'. And suddenly, it clicked.
He wasn't just another kid, a normal teenager living a normal life. He was the reincarnation of Alasdair Mac Colla. But he knew that he couldn't tell anyone. They would think he was a monster, wouldn't he? He also knew that he needed to figure things out. Scotland wasn't the place to do it, as he was around his siblings. So, he contacted a cousin in America, and came to Riverdale High School.
High school was pretty easy for him. He was good looking, athletic, and by no means stupid. Ewan was recruited into the RSOR, and his life changed. No longer did he feel like a freak. He wasn't alone in the world, a lonely reincarnated soul. Relief was the main feeling that filled him, though there were others as well. His past identity was mostly secret, something he shared with a select few. The RSOR was almost like a second family for him. And when he graduated, he knew he wanted to go back. He didn't want to be alone in his knowledge, and he needed someone that knew.
Becoming a librarian just felt right, he thought. He knew he couldn't be a history teacher, because he knew he couldn't give his unbiased opinion. And he knew nothing else felt right. Books had always been a comfort for him, since he'd been old enough to read. Working, surrounded by them, would be no hardship. So, he began college.
That's where he met Jennifer. She was a girl in his math and English class, and had been bugging him to ask her on a date. He'd told her no repeatedly, having no interest in dating her. He didn't consider her worth his time. Until his roommate threw a party. She was there, and she flirted persistently. He continued to turn her down, but wasn't cautious enough with his drink. She drugged him, and got him into bed.
Two months later, she called him in the middle of the night, screaming at him that he'd gotten her pregnant. Having no memory of the night in question, he asked what she was talking about. And it all came out in a rush, as she told him everything. Pieces came together, and his lack of memory from the party was suddenly explained. He was furious, and threatened to contact the police. He knew that he didn't have any evidence, though, and that it would be more trouble than it would be worth. He stuck with her through the pregnancy, though it wasn't for her sake. He still didn't consider her worth his time, but he refused to abandon his child.
Another seven months passed, and she gave birth to a baby girl. Ewan named her Maura Isabelle, after her grandmother. He convinced Jennifer to give him full custody, not that it was a hard argument. She was desperate to just move on with her life, and no longer wanted Ewan, or their child. Life moved on for Ewan and Maura, and they settled into a routine. His roommate and friends helped with Maura, babysitting so that he could continue his classes. It worked for them, even if it was difficult at times.
When he graduated, he came back to Riverdale. He got a house, and a job as the high school librarian. His daughter was almost five years old at this point, and went to work with him until she started school. It's been almost two years since, and they don't think they could be happier.
