Taking care of a child could be hard work, but Zoe was thankfully that she ended up with the child that she did.
Technically he wasn't her child, but rather her half brother, but she treated him as both. He was the best she could ask for...no, even better! There were times when Zoe wondered if Zachary was a reincarnate himself with how fast he could pick things up. Regardless, she was proud of him. Why, just now, he'd whispered to her that while she'd been chatting with one of the salesmen at the Godiva chocolate store, he'd pocketed a few chocolates while no one was paying attention. Now, most older siblings would admonish the child for admitting such a thing and take them back to the store immediately, Zoe decided that this called for a treat! Then again, she was a former pirate, so her views were a bit skewed where that was concerned.
Though Zach remained unaware as to his sister's true identity as Mary Reed, both of them shared an interest in pirates and pirate lore. Zoe had therefore accepted Zach's proposal to wear an eyepatch and pirate hat to the mall, and to carry around a cardboard sword. Zoe contemplated getting him a real sword at some point. As much as she enjoyed swords, even she realized that giving a four year old a sword was asking for trouble. She would wait until he was a few years older, and then she would teach him herself. She had, after all, been in her share of sword fights on The Revenge, as Zach heard in some of his bedtimes stories (although again, he remained unaware that the female pirate that appeared in so many of his stories was actually his big sister).
As a reward for his success, Zoe decided to take him to the food court for a treat. She waited patiently as her little brother took forever to decide where he wanted to eat, as there were so many yummy options at the food court. He eventually decided on Arby's. He ordered a turkey and cheese sandwich off of the kid's meal menu, while she opted for just a small roast beef sandwich. Arby's wasn't her favorite restaurant, but it was cheap, and it was for Zach. Besides, she knew that both of them were looking forward to the dessert that Zach had 'pillaged' anyway. As she reminded him though, in a whisper as they took a seat, they would have to wait until they were out of the mall. Zachary and Zoe sat down to eat their meal...sort of. Zoe was sitting, Zachary kept getting up with his cardboard sword and pretending to thrust it at passersby. A few shot Zoe annoyed looks, which she ignored, while most of them laughed in amusement, not realizing that this kid was being 'babysat', so to speak, by a real pirate who was already in the process of teaching him to be what he was dressed up as. As she looked up at one of Zachary's latest targets, she was surprised to see that it was someone familiar. After Zach's typical cry in a childish voice of 'arr!', Zoe greeted the person in question. "Well hello. Feel free to take a seat, unless you want Zachary to make you walk the plank."[/color] Zoe commented jokingly, waiting to see what the other person would do.
