It bothered Tamara whenever she saw Vaughn in the hallways as well. It felt as though they were back at square one, when they'd first met. No, actually, they were worse off than even that. At least at their first meetings they could exchange verbal barbs. They didn't even exchange words whenever they passed in the hallways. Even though she'd been angry with Vaughn (and still was to some extent), she didn't want to reduce the good times that they had spent with each other to that.
Once again, Tamara had to snort at Vaughn's penchant for asking questions of her when she was being level with him. "No, I'm just saying that to make you feel better. I wouldn't be saying it if I didn't feel that way." While she did like to get people riled up, it was unheard of for Tamara to simply say something to make someone feel better. No, whenever she said something willy-nilly, it was to make the person it was targeted toward feel worse. It was the path she'd followed at her first meeting with Vaughn, and the path she followed the night of their big fight. Saying something to make another person feel better? Usually that meant she truly cared about that person, and meant what she was saying. Only a few people had that privilege. Errol, Kodi, Lenita, her brother Ben...and Vaughn. Yes, Vaughn was included in that list now, whether he knew it or not.
Looked like things were headed back in the right direction after all.
She continued to walk with Vaughn toward the tunnel of love/terror (she'd have to place her bet on the latter, based on what night it was), looking the happiest she'd looked in weeks. If Vaughn was paying any attention, he'd discern this easily."I just hope they don't have anyone jumping out at us. I hate when they do that." An automatic instinct to scream at the top of her lungs whenever such a thing happened didn't help her case much in this regard.
