Oh if only Oliver could show off his true resume. Then he wouldn't have to go through this silly training regimen.
It looked as though most of Oliver's work would be on maintaining the machines that functioned near the lanes. The ball return machine, the machine that lifted the pins, etc. Oliver asked if he would be working with the computers, to which the training manager laughed and told him that he had to have certifications for that, and that they wouldn't be letting an untrained fifteen year old anywhere near such complicated equipment.
Oliver managed to bite his tongue on this, knowing full well that he couldn't reveal that he was in no way merely an untrained fifteen year old, and had experience with machinery dating back to the 19th century, but when the trainer started to show him how to use simple tools (he knew how to use a freakin' screwdriver!) that Oliver had to put his foot down. The ensuing, highly mechanical diatribe that Oliver descended into after this caused the trainer to stare at Oliver in surprise (and, perhaps, even a bit of confusion...he didn't even recognize some of the terminology that Oliver was using, which was related to early aircraft) before handing over the screwdriver and commenting in an incredulous voice. "I think you're ready."
And so Orville Wright was ready for his first day as a mechanic at the Riverdale bowling alley.
There wasn't much to the job, from what Oliver could see. For the most part, things ran rather smoothly. He only had to step in when something went wrong. This happened more often than one might think, but not so often that Oliver was constantly busy. He spent his down time contemplating how he and Wilbur could use the bowling lanes as runways for their model aircraft. That part would be easily. It was disabling the cameras that would be the hard part, though perhaps the most fun at the same time. Did Xelios have access to the security tapes?
It was near closing time, and Oliver decided to come out of the back and onto the main floor of the bowling alley. His duties were done for the night (unless something happened to go haywire on the one couple who was still bowling at the other end of the alley), he just had to wait until the alley closed it's doors. As such, he started to make his way over to the counter that he saw his roommate working at.
"Hey Xelios. No kids crawling up into machines today, I hope?" Oliver asked conversationally with a small smile on his face, recalling one of Xelios' first days at the bowling alley. Then again, most kids her age weren't out this late at night. Oliver happened to take a glance at the lanes, a contemplative look crossing his features before he looked back at Xelios and lowered his voice a little. "Do you by any chance have access to the security cameras? I mean, we don't need it now, but..." Wilbur was right. This would be the perfect place to conduct tests without anyone knowing. They just had to get rid of those security cameras...a small smirk came across Oliver's face. Oh Xelios, what did you get yourself into?
