The Digital World had been relatively at peace
after the dethronement of the self-proclaimed
Digimon Emperor. All traces of that dark era were
gradually erased until it remained but a mere
memory in the minds of those who had witnessed it
firsthand. Malomyotismon never came into existence;
in fact, Yukio Oikawa was never involved with the
affairs of Ken Ichijouji or the Digital World.
The majority of the real-world denizens still know
nothing of the Digital World; and just as the
original battle between Greymon and Parrotmon at
Highton View Terrace was explained away as
terrorism, so have been other real-world
discrepancies.
A small branch of the Japanese military, which soon
came to be known as the Delitto Special Operations,
became extremely interested in these “acts of
terrorism” and the apparent amount of power behind
them. When no groups were found to support the
seemingly random attacks, the Delitto Special Ops
(DSO) began their own research and eventually
stumbled across conspiracy theories involving the
Digidestined and the Digital World. Through largely
hysterical re-tellings of Digimon sightings, the
rumors were enough to lead the DSO to the
Digidestined and much more dangerous information.
The DSO was obsessed with the promise of power
offered by the Digimon they researched, and planned
on using them as weapons for their own agenda.
When the DSO failed to open a working portal into
the Digital World, a tense struggle between them
and the known Digidestined ensued. When the latter
refused to allow careless entry into the Digital
World, the DSO attempted to create their own
portals. They were poorly made, and blinked out of
existence shortly after they were born. The one
Digimon they were able to pull out into the real
world was so weak from the transition through the
“glitchy” portal that it was destroyed as soon as
they began running tests on it.
The Digidestined, meanwhile, busied themselves with
sealing off the Digital World. They remained silent
and kept their heads down – after several fruitless
years, the DSO was shut down and regarded in much
the same manner as Area 51. Afraid of similar
abuse, the remaining Digidestined made a pact to
never return to the Digital World. After several
decades, Digimon and the events involving them came
to be seen as a hoax; an old wives’ tale not to be
given credit.
----------
It has been over a century since anyone has even
seen, much less set foot the Digital World. The
tentative calm that had settled in the absence of
human interference is beginning to warp – Digimon
are once more reaching out to the real world in
search of human tamers, desperately in need of
help. People all over the world have started
receiving mysterious emails, each one containing
but a single link that once clicked, self-deletes
the email after it pulls the reader into the
Digital World through a dilapidated portal.
So why has chaos seized the reigns of the Digital
World once again? Darkness has returned in the form
of a virus that is spreading through the Digital
World. It warps both the Digimon and their world
into dark, twisted imitations of their true selves,
bringing out and manifesting the worst of who they
are. The origins of the disease are shrouded in
mystery, and stemming the spread of the virus seems
an impossible task. A dark beast, Gevaudamon by
name, is said to spread the illness as he travels
through the digital landscape -- is he the cause of
this pandemic, and if so... Will you be able to
stop him?
