Oh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! JUSTICE LOGAN ==================================== Justice had a habit of forgetting that not everyone lived in a time when the kind of technology existent today was barely even conceived of. He wasn’t fascinated by any of the technology now, just irritated by the manner in which people used it so completely. Heaven forbid they cook a proper meal rather than using the microwave, or ask directions rather than using Google Maps, or even actually ask a question rather than trying to Google the answer. It was a brilliant system but it was accompanied by a huge loss in social activities. What was once a big deal socially was now a stay at home activity. The television showed that perfectly.
Justice also had to keep reminding himself that a lot of the reincarnations he knew contributed in someway to the advancements he knew. For example, Leonardo Da Vinci had experimented with oil paints that caused massive artistic advances that Justice had taken advantage of in his first life. Edison, though he had stolen most of his patents, paved the way for many things including Video as people knew it today. Not to mention Oliver, the one right in front of him, credited for creating the airplane! If it weren’t for those people who now existed to see how far things had advanced from when they created them, life wouldn’t be like this at all. Even Justice could be credited with some advances in animation.
Justice turned his attention back to Oliver. ”I guess not…”
Justice laughed. Though it didn’t sound quite so ludicrous to anyone in RSOR for Walt Disney to club Orville Wright with a heavy blunt object…Naturally, Oliver’s parents would have a shit fit over it though. Justice had to remind himself not to visualize it from his knowledge base, and once he did he had a very amusing cartoon visual in his head. That happened often so the laughter from that combined with his initial laughter. ”Oh right. I forgot you were not there for TV.” Justice bit his lip. Sometimes it was hard to remember time periods everyone was from and what they were used to along with dates that certain technologies came to be. ”I just find that the depth that was once placed into animation has died out to make way for flat, and cheap television shows that barely last more than two seasons. I mean, all the old cartoons lasted many, many seasons. Because they were unique and witty. Now its all about a quick in your face plot that ends just as quickly as it begins.” He shook his head then paused, ”Not to say that Mickey Shorts were not like that, but I mean…there was a theme and a style to them that made Mickey enter so many situations and various narrative styles. There were 35 episodes of Mickey Mouse itself and then Mickey continued on to star in more than 5,000 shows! You don’t see Spongebob getting that kind of glory!...and again, I say, I am not trying to toot my own horn here.” Justice nodded and was pleased to see Oliver could understand and agreed to how relatable Mickey had become at that point in history. ”Love is such a common theme in everything and everyone understands it to some point. Its just one of those long lasting topics in any creative medium…” Justice added with a shrug. ”Can’t say it was a work of brilliance but it was a theme borrowed from millions of other stories.” Justice smiled. ”We tested a few things and it definitely worked better when Mickey was more humanoid. Mickey just needed that human touch I think…” He added with a smile.[/blockquote][/blockquote] ==================================== •• Tag • Oliver Winchester •• •• Words • 612 •• •• Outfit • CLICK •• •• Lyrics • "Hey Mickey!" by Toni Basil •• •• Notes • My turn at a short one...xD ••

Technology had its strengths and weaknesses, that much was certain. Of course Oliver had a slight bias, and thus tended to see more of the strengths that came with technology than the weaknesses. He did, however, notice a different in the teenagers of the 21st century when comparing non-reincarnates to reincarnates. While he might not have had it as hard as Isa growing up in the 19th century, he certainly had to deal with more challenges than youth of the 21st century. Oliver was getting used to the strange stories that RSOR had a tendency to bring, but telling his parents that Walt Disney clubbed him over the head with a blunt object wasn't something he figured would go over that well. The simple thought of it caused Oliver to let loose a few chortles of his own. Like Justice, he was not only picturing the looks on Ed and Judy Winchester's faces as he spouted off this line, but he was also picturing Justice and himself in their old bodies while this was occurring. Once upon a time, that might have been a bit harder to conceive, but after the London trip, Oliver was finding it quite easy. "Nope...back in my day we listened to the radio." Oliver stated in a tone obviously reminiscent of an old man's. He then proceeded to laugh, not only at the imitation, as a normal fourteen year old might, but at the irony of the fact that he had, once upon a time, sounded like that. He'd made it to 76 years of age in his first life. No doubt he hadn't sounded like a spring chicken at that point. In some ways he was grateful to have youth back. In some ways, he'd never entirely grown up even in his first life. Many of the hallmarks of becoming an adult were absent from Orville's life. He had never entirely moved out on his own. The only reason why he lived on his own in his later years was owing to the fact that he outlived everyone else in his family. He had never married, never had any children...although his nieces and nephews certainly filled any void that might have caused. Thinking of his nieces and nephews, in fact, made Oliver frown slightly. It almost seemed as though fate had a hand in when he was reincarnated, for he was born as Oliver Winchester the year after his last surviving niece, Ivonette, passed away at the age of ninety-nine. It was a strange thought, the bright and charming little girl who grew up before his eyes, at the age of ninety-nine. "I know exactly what you mean. Most of the classics are still appearing in occasional movies and TV shows here and there. You don't see that as much with the newer animated characters." Oliver wasn't going to go so far as to say every single one, but he had not failed to noticed what Justice was describing. Once again, Oliver had to smile as Justice put up another disclaimer. "Don't worry about it, Walt. You're just stating it the way it is as far as I'm concerned." When the conversation turned back to Mickey once more, Oliver jotted down the next bits of information that Justice had to offer. "You say you tested other ideas...what other ideas did you play with, if you don't mind me asking?" He figured that would certainly be useful for his speech. As far as he was concerned, he could use all the information possible, so he had that to focus on rather than the fact that he would be standing in front of a crowd of people and speaking. Oh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! JUSTICE LOGAN ==================================== Justice smiled widely hearing the mention of the Radio. The Radio was still a big deal in his time period—not nearly as big as in earlier years when it was released, but still big. Justice still maintained a respect for the radio but he also felt that the radio was now belittle and underestimated. The largest reason for it is simply the fact that the radio was once used for the concrete. You knew if something was entertainment most of the time. Now the radio was almost strictly entertainment instead of being used as a device for hard news. ”Ah! The Radio! Now there is a system that has been reworked into something far less than it once was…”
Justice said, his tone also the reminiscent tone of an old man. He also pulled it off quite well and laughed along with Oliver. The real humor lay in the fact that Justice had died in his 60s, so for all intensive purposes he had been an old man as well. One thing that Justice and Oliver definitely shared was that both of them have never really grown up. Walter had married and had children, sure—but he still was a child. He animated children’s tales and stories after all. He made movies, shorts, even television content. You needed imagination to create Mickey Mouse and he wonderful world of Disney! Walt Disney was a child in so many ways, and really, it was these parallels that he shared with Oliver that made their friendship work so well. Justice also avoided talking about family though. His daughter, Diane, was still alive today and he had a hard time knowing this and not going to her or doing something about it. He accepted that Sharon was dead, but the hardest part of Justice’s current life was the knowledge that his beautiful wife had died when he was four years old in his new life and to make that worse, she had remarried after him. It hurt to think she loved another man…though he would rather she had done that than grieved over him endlessly. She had moved on. It was both a relief and a hurt for Justice—no, not Justice, for Walt. Justice still maintained hope that he would meet Lilian in his current life, but as his years in high school had gone on he had gotten less and less hopeful. Given the time, she would be 13 years old at the oldest, and that in itself was a fright. He knew he was going to do an extra year of high school, if only for the chance of meeting Lilian. Justice snapped out of his thoughts, his smile still in place as he nodded, glad to see Oliver understood what he had meant. He nodded again as Oliver asked about the other ideas he played with, in regard to Mickey. ”Well, we have seen Mickey as a bit of a flirt in Plane Crazy, as a wild and witty humanoid mouse with a bit of a bad streak and that was in Galloping Gaucho and also as a grief filled lover in the Barn Dance. But he was always humanoid in those. In When the Cat’s away he was just a normal mouse. He behaved just like a mouse and lacked the human characteristics. Mickey has also been a soldier in the Barnyard Battle. He has been a conductor for an orchestra, a musician, and of course a Sorcerer’s Apprentice. He has had a voice and he has been silent. He has acted one way and acted the complete opposite. We have…experimented I guess…” Justice explained, hoping it made sense. ”All of these have been seen in a short or a movie…” He added. Justice smiled deviously, ”I think I liked him best in the beginning as a bad ass, but also in Fantasia. Though, Fantasia is a bigger deal to me in my second life so much as from the first life. Originally it was just a means to make Mickey big again, as he was on the decline…again.” Justice added the last part with an amused smile. The radio had been just as big as TV in it's heyday, perhaps even moreso. It was something that he honestly wondered if many teenagers nowadays could live without. When one thought about it, radio in its earlier days and television accomplished many of the same functions - To communicate and entertain. Nowadays, however, it seemed as though the primary function of radio was to advertise. The last time he listened to the radio, he had to frown at the sheer number of advertisements that he heard on the radio. Between that and the music, there wasn't much else. Sure, occasionally they would discuss the news, but it wasn't the way it used to be by a long shot, and Oliver missed that fact. To be fair, though, at least it still existed. He was in some ways surprised that television had not overtaken it entirely, the way the internet was eliminating the need for newspapers. This was something else that Oliver wasn't quite pleased about. Having been a printer in his teens and early twenties in his past life, it saddened him to see the old technology fall to the wayside. While he loved any improvements in technology, he could not ignore how strange it was to see things that he'd grown up the first time around being replaced by something else entirely. Perhaps if he'd lived through all of it, his feelings might not have been so profound, but he'd died in 1948. By the time he was old enough to make any modicum of sense with the technology of this time period, it was 1999 or 2000. It was culture shock, plain and simple, and though Oliver had gotten used to it for the most part, it was still a bit of a shock at times to think of just how much had changed over a mere half a century! "They don't even play the news much anymore, when it used to be everyone's primary source of news. And don't get me started on newspapers..." Oliver laughed, again feeling like a bit of an old man for this comment. He hated to feel that way, and wasn't sure if he wanted to stay on the subject much longer. Instead, he wanted to think about what was to come, and the fact that hopefully he would be there for it. In fact, it would be utterly fantastic if he was a part of it all! He didn't feel right unless he was tinkering with something, whether it was a huge project that might change the world, or something as small as fiddling around with a small household appliance. Family was a rough subject with almost any reincarnate, Oliver surmised. It, of course, depended on how close one was to their past family, but most everyone had someone that they missed from that time, that they could not go back to see again, but hope to see in the next life (well, this one) again. Oliver had gotten lucky once, so he knew better than to wish for anything else, but he still found himself doing it at times. Justice had shared his feelings about Lillian before with Oliver, and all Oliver could do was assure him that a chance meeting may be to come in his future. There was always that chance. However, there was always a chance that they may never see each other again, which made Oliver appreciate what he had now that much more. Perhaps it was best that the subject turned back to Mickey before long. "He's quite versatile, I can see." Oliver commented with a small grin. "That may be another thing that drew him a fan base...if Mickey, a cartoon mouse, could do all of this, why couldn't they?" Imagination was a wonderful thing, when one thought about it. Oliver had been noted to say himself, in his past life, that he'd almost had more fun imagining what it would be like to fly than actually flying for himself. Part of the fun that came from creating came from the process of creating itself, and not always the product. Not to mention that many of these Disney classics appeared during the Great Depression, a time when a good many people could do with a chance to escape the bitter realities of the time period. "Ah, Fantasia. They remade it for our childhood in this life, oddly enough." Oliver laughed, thinking of Fantasia 2000. He jotted down the information about Fantasia that Justice provided, such as the fact that it was intended to make Mickey big again, to give him a star vehicle of sorts. And as far as Oliver could tell, it had worked - Who couldn't remember Mickey as the Sorcerer's Apprentice? Word count: 810 To: Jez-E/Justice Notes: Wooooooooooooo

Oh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! JUSTICE LOGAN ==================================== ”No they really don’t…and I completely understand the news paper issue. I still read it, but a lot of people go to the internet for their news—or just watch it on TV.”
Justice commented in understanding. He felt like an old man most days lately. It just sort of happened that way. When you were there to see what things were like pre-internet and pre-most other technologies…it just sort of had that effect. Justice was there when the television got big, It had happened over the course of his first life time! Yes there had been a jump in technology since he died in the 60s, but still he saw how it took its course in the earlier years. Justice smiled at Oliver’s response to his list of Mickey’s roles. ”That was the intent. Back then it wasn’t about one movie or one television series. It was about a series of short stories or short plots. Mickey had to be versatile or he wouldn’t have fit into the plots and ideas we came up with for him. And come to think of it…what you say is quite true. People could see Mickey accomplishing many things and it does enable people to try for their own goals. Though, I think that is more on a subconscious level.” Justice agreed with Oliver in many ways on this topic. Justice bit his lip. ”Yes, they remade it in 2000. But nothing is quite like the classic. Then again, I remember making the classic so I am a bit biased.” Justice laughed. ”It is a bit odd to think of the timing…the second Fantasia was released forty years after the first one, and I was there to see them both, just in a different life. I didn’t see that coming, but then again, I don’t get a say in the Disney Company anymore. Justice shrugged. ”I guess this takes us into a production change. See….Ub wanted to start his own studio. So he left my employment for that and he had been a key to Mickey and his success. This caused some difficulties. See…at the time the Disney Company had a contract with the Pat Powers company. There were some holes and some issues and the contract ended. They made a deal with Ub Lwerks—since Ub wanted his own studio. My friend took the deal and left the company. It changed a lot for me and for Mickey.” Justice paused thinking back on what happened. Things hadn’t ended as well as they could between Walt and his friend. Justice did feel guilty for that now. ”Any ways…I found animators to replace Lwerks so Mickey Mouse would live on. This is around 1930 by the way…So cue the Great Depression. Mickey’s popularity sky rocketed. Millions of people were watching Mickey’s progress. I got an Oscar for creating Mickey too! Sadly…Mickey was out matched in popularity around 1935 by Popeye the Sailor. God I hate that show.” Justice added on with a grin. ”So it was time for a redesign. Mickey was once again perfected and changed. I added color to him as well—this happened over and over for time. I mean, I got an award in 35 for creating Mickey, but by 38 Donald Duck surpassed Mickey in popularity. So I redesigned him again. And this time Mickey was at the peak of his popularity. And then it just dropped until he became a TV show later” Justice smiled. ”How is that for a roller coaster ride?” he laughed. ”Either way, within this we start to get into the Mickey Mouse and Friends comics. They were originally just Mickey mouse…but the name changed. So we started printing these in 1939 through Boom! Studios. So here we have Goofy, Donald Duck, Minnie, Pluto, Mickey’s nephews Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse and of course Mickey himself. Oh! And don’t forget Peg-Leg Pete. This wasn’t key to Mickey’s career but it did play parts….” Justice paused. ”The last notable thing to mention in his development was the voice changed. In 1946 I was too busy to keep voicing Mickey. So a musician who had been with the company for years took over. Jimmy—Jimmy MadDonald. He started doing the voicing in sections of Mickey and the Beanstalk and then just kept doing it from there. I did voice Mickey occasionally in certain releases but that was it really. Someone else voices Mickey now—trying to remember his name…Bret something. Either way…my control over Mickey started to spiral. Justice shrugged. ”It happens…” ”I lost track of aspects of Mickey in all this. But we are pretty much at the point where Mickey was no longer mine to tell the stories of. I mean…all of these things carried over into the last years of my life and then after I died. The comics were released with new versions and Mickey just kept going after I died. I had a lot to research when I realized who I was just to see what had been done with my characters. And just to mention—Kingdom Hearts was a work of brilliance!” Justice added with a huge grin. ”I just keep playing it over and over…” He cleared his throat. ”I hope all this helped!...do you have any other questions at all?” Justice asked with a smile. He loved talking Mickey, but as he got to the end of the it, emotions got a bit too involved. It was still hard today for Justice to think that he had created this character—with help, but still…he had voiced the character and had been connected to the character. And death separated his control and creative voice with regard to the character. It just left some emotional moments in the story that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.[/blockquote][/blockquote] ==================================== •• Tag • Oliver Winchester •• •• Words • 964 •• •• Outfit • CLICK •• •• Lyrics • "Hey Mickey!" by Toni Basil •• •• Notes • -does a dance- ••

"At the very least, it offered escapist fare, which I think everyone likes to do from time to time." That was one of the primary purposes of entertainment, wasn't it? To offer an escape from the stresses of the daily grind. Oliver could not resist a laugh at Justice's next statement as he jotted down the information provided. "Yes, I could see why you might feel that way." Oliver wondered if seeing Fantasia brought back any memories of creating the original in Justice, but found that he didn't even have to ask the question. He was certain that it must have stirred something up within Justice, as he and Justice had discussed this matter before. Familiar things brought back familiar memories. It worked much in the way that seeing your grandma's ugly old vase could remind you of the day you nearly broke it, even though you hadn't thought about it in years. Lives blended together in his case, and though he could keep the events separate for the most part he had a hard time doing it as a child. Justice was full of all sorts of useful information at this point. Oliver jotted down this information like mad, wishing that he'd brought a typewriter computer instead, as it would be easier to keep up that way. As it was, Oliver was jotting things down rather messily, something that he did not particularly enjoy, but he'd go back over his notes later and sort them out a bit. The important part was that he had the information at his disposal. He just wished that he could credit the source for what it truly was! Why couldn't his teacher be a reincarnate? The information about the Mickey Mouse and Friends comics he tried to separate from the rest, to indicate that it ushered in the start of a different era. Once Justice mentioned the voice of Mickey changing to a different voice actor, Oliver could tell that he was nearing the end of the firsthand information Justice had to offer about Mickey. Of course, there was like myriads more that Justice was leaving out, but if Oliver asked for every single detail, he and Justice would probably be sitting in the commons for days, if not weeks. Oliver figured that he'd include perhaps a paragraph or two within his written speech about what happened to Mickey after Walt's death, just to wrap things up, but Oliver was going to focus most of his speech on the information that Justice provided. It just felt right, given the sheer amount that Justice had given him to work off of. Oliver was quite grateful, though he would be even more grateful if Justice was willing to give the speech for him! ...seeing as that was not going to happen, however, Oliver was confronted yet again with the fact that he would have to present this in front of the class, and his mouth went dry at the thought. He was distracted, however, as he noted that Justice seemed a bit emotional as he neared the end of his story of Mickey. This, if anything else, was a sign that his personal interview with Walt Disney about Mickey Mouse was coming to a close. Oliver wrote out a quick note about Kingdom Hearts and then closed up his notebook. "I think I have more than enough information to go off of now. The real hurdle now is presenting it in front of the class..." A bit of color faded from Oliver's face at this thought, and he actually felt a tad nauseated. Two weeks...he had two weeks to prepare... "This has definitely helped! I just...don't know how I'm going to cite all of it. Personal interview is just going to give me some strange looks from my teacher." He laughed. Ah, the strange scenarios that RSOR brought... Word count: 667 To: Jez-E/Justice Notes: Wewp

Oh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! JUSTICE LOGAN ==================================== Justice found himself nodding. He strongly agreed that the entertainment value came from being able to escape the problems in everyday life. Then again, Justice had to understand that value. He was Walt Disney. He was an entertainer and maintained a love of entertainment in almost any form. Justice made his entire first life on the idea of giving an escape and inspiring the imagination in children. He intended to make a life of it the second time too.
Justice was glad to see Oliver understood where he was standing in relation to Fantasia. It was his creation and it was certainly one of his memories. But it was also a business move. As much as Justice was an animator people often forgot that first and foremost he was a business man. He was an entrepreneur and a man with a vision. Or at least he had been. In this life, Justice had decided he would focus on the more artistic side of business. He had already established a company with a name kids everywhere knew. Now he would make it big through his animation and art—probably by simply rejoining with his old company.
Once Justice had finished, he felt satisfied he had given Oliver more than enough to speak about. He had said the speech was…five to ten minutes? Well that was easy enough with the details Justice had given him. And now Orville Wright knew what there was to know about Mickey Mouse—or at least as much as Justice could offer from firsthand accounts. Once he had died, Justice was no longer in control of Mickey. Mickey was property of the Disney Company now—not him. Though, once upon a time that was his. Now it would belong to his daughter and his grandchildren. His character would give them money and allow them the best possible life he could give them.
Justice felt a pang of grief at the thought of his daughter. It was often very hard for him not to track down his daughter. She was still alive today after all—well at least one of his two baby girls were. Diane was old now—much older than Justice appeared. It was hard for him to keep in mind that should he approach her and say who he was she would consider him cruel and mad and throw him out the door—if not landing him in prison. The world was just not ready to accept reincarnations and Justice also knew that his little girl wouldn’t know it was him. Or if she did she wouldn’t believe herself. It was probably the only thought keeping him from going to her.
Justice snapped out of his thoughts quickly, when he heard Oliver speak again, the notebook now closed. ”I think you have enough as well—I figure if I had gone into too much detail we would be here forever. I think you’ll do fine with your speech.”
Justice offered, trying to reassure Oliver, seeing as his face had gone quite pale. ”Keep in mind, none of them want to be up there doing there’s either. When it comes to talking to a large audience, or even a small one, everyone gets nervous—it’s just how we handle the nerves. If you know your content and make sure you know it well, it’s much easier to get in front of a crowd and speak. So go over what you are planning to say many times before getting up there and it will feel better…” Justice gave Oliver a smile. Unlike Oliver, Justice was used to speeches and public speaking. He was confident in front of a crowd of people. But that was part of being Walt Disney. He was always talking to people, to children and proposing ideas to business people. He had to be charismatic to a point. ”I am sure you will work out the citation issue.” Justice laughed. ”Well, I think I will head home…I think I may want to doodle some Mickey and friends scenes,” he said, a smile that would surely tell Oliver how amused Justice was that all this talk had given him doodle muse. Not that it was hard anymore. When didn’t he have doodle muse.[/blockquote][/blockquote] ==================================== •• Tag • Oliver Winchester •• •• Words • 708 •• •• Outfit • CLICK •• •• Lyrics • "Hey Mickey!" by Toni Basil •• •• Notes • Well this is coming to its end. ••

Oliver continued to mull over what lay ahead. He was likely only making things worse on himself by continuing to worry about it, but he could not help it. At least he was going over ideas in his head? Could be considered preparation of sorts, but he needed to organize everything before getting to that stage. The freshman still noticed the change in demeanor at the very end of the conversation. It was part of the reason he'd opted to leave the interview off there. Having been through interviews himself in the past, he knew when an interview was starting to wear down. Oliver could have sworn he saw something else in Justice though - another thought, perhaps - but decided not to voice it. He'd already asked so many questions of Justice that it just did not feel right to pry anymore. Oliver smiled a bit at Justice's reassurance. While it did not help much (he still had to do the speech, after all), it offered at least a tiny bit of comfort, which was nice. If Justice had left it there, that would have been all Oliver had to think on the matter. Instead, though, Justice offered him a few words of advice. Oliver nodded, all the while going over what Justice was saying in his head. He just had to know his information. He had to remember that the others knew the feeling of nervousness too. He had to admit, it also helped that Walt Disney had inserted the line 'everyone gets nervous - its just how we handle the nerves'. Here was a man who was very much involved in show business, and here he was, admitting that he even got nervous at times. That helped. "Maybe I'll practice a bit for Will and Darwin." Oliver stated with a light shrug. He wouldn't feel so nervous practicing in front of them. He doubted Xelios would say much anyway, and if Will had something negative to say, Oliver could always throw a pillow at him. Ah, the joys of brotherhood. "I'm sure I'll figure something out." Oliver stated with a small smile. Again, this really was the least of his worries. When Justice stated that he was going off to draw, Oliver took a look at his watch and came to the realization that he needed to head back to his dorm as well. He stood up at once. "I should be going too. Thanks again for all of your help. Tell Mickey and all of the others that I said hey, and as for Goofy, well...I'm sure he won't do anything that I wouldn't do." Oliver responded with a wink, a reference to the fact that Justice often depicted him as Goofy. He gave a nod to Justice and then turned in the other direction, back to his dorm, thrilled with all of the information he had to work with now.
