"do you have memories that didn't seem...yours, at first?"
Some people do. They have memories that weren't quite belonging to them. Memories they've had for so long they came into play before their earliest memories as a child. Memories of a past life. Memories that end with a death, then start of as their next set of memories. But once they learn the word 'reincarnation', it falls into place for children with strange skills and memories.
You see, some souls are just too powerful for death. To die is to have your 'energy' stripped down to just that. Where the memories go, no one knows. But sometimes, if a soul is strong enough, it will remain intact. It will still be reborn, of course...but it will have every memory of a past life. There people are, in effect, reincarnations. People ranging from Sakajawea to Alexander the Great. Florence Foster Jenkins to Florence Nightingale - did you know that Napoleon Bonaparte and Joan of Arc are in the same grade, or that Judas Iscariot is a freshman here?
Forty percent of Riverdale students (and some of the staff) are reincarnations. These forty percent - teachers not included - are members of RSOR, which stands for either Riverdale Society of Reincarnations, or Reincarnate Society of Riverdale. No one else knows. In the school, in the world...nowhere. Unless you're one of them.
The 'normals' probably have it better. They don't have to lie about who they really know they are. They don't have to speak in code or lie about what RSOR might be. They don't have to remember a death. They don't have to worry about having been written down as the bad guy and have them haunted by it every step they take.
Of course, it's not so clear cut as this. RSOR risks ripping the school between those who don't care what it is, its members and those who want to know what's the big deal about it. That and some historical figures would never get along, let alone in a classroom!
Naturally, though, that's not all Riverdale offers. A typical boarding high in every other way, Riverdale offers a mix between drama, stupidity, creepy teachers, nice teachers, cliques, you name it; they have it.
It's hell, it's heaven, it's everything a high school is.
It is also a haven.
Because for some (un)lucky souls...
IT NEVER ENDS!
